Discipline from a teacher

Getting discipline from a teacher and not your parents sounds kind of scary. I think that corporal punishment might sometimes work for some students because that way students will grow fear and actually pay attention in class. But why get discipline from a teacher and not your parents? I mean that is kind of dumb.... Parents are here to discipline their childs on order to keep them from getting in trouble. It depends what type of corporal punishment teachers/principles use I guess....
